Sparring ~ Round 3

Following Kismet and Sofia's move, here's the layout.  Ibrahim is stunned again, falling back to 1409.

Enrico can take a move.  Remember, there's a -1 AP penalty for leaving any hex adjacent to a combatant.

As Kismet is stunned, Sofia is the only one who can move.

Enrico attempts to crush Kismet's skull (in a friendly way of course) with his horseman's flail +1 (and another +1 for STR bonus).

To hit (1d20) = 16 + 2 (18)

Damage (1d4+1) = 3 + 2 (5)

Shopping list so far:

- throwing axes for Kismet
- armor for Ibrahim (are bards restricted at all in terms of spellcasting when in armor?)

Kismet said...

Actually more axes isn't a matter of cash, it's carrying. I COULD lose one AP for more, but don't think it's worth it. I think I own four and carry two. I was thinking it might have been a better idea to draw an axe instead of go toe to toe with Enrico.

Sofia Viktorova Koleva said...

Ah, OK. Yes, agreed on both points.

Alexis Smolensk said...

Unless I miss my guess, Kismet has 20 hit points or less. Yes?

Enrico, if Kismet is stunned, he will drop back into 0812. That will leave you with 1 AP (2? - still haven't seen that weight number yet). How would you like to use it?

[Just finished an amazing post on bards]

Alexis Smolensk said...

Bards are limited in their armor types to padded, leather, studded leather or chain mail; they may not wear ring, scale, banded, splinted or plate armors. They are prohibited from using shields and great helmets, but may use normal helmets if they desire.

Their spells are not restricted by wearing acceptable armor.

Kismet said...

Had 15.

Sofia Viktorova Koleva said...

Ibrahim, go ahead and pick out some armor for yourself for after the combat when we return to Syros. Let me know how much you spend so I can deduct it.

Alexis Smolensk said...

Then Enrico has free movement (no combat hex penalty) for the rest of his movement. I'll wait for him to see what he does.

You are true friends. And I will seek to be worthy of that friendship!

(Ibrahim says, as they continue to pummel him into a stupor. ;) )

Round 2, 6:16pm
"92.7 pounds"

Alexis Smolensk said...

Looking for Enrico's, Kismet. Not yours. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Ibrahim Bin Yusuf said...

I think Kismet was quoting Enrico's post:

Ah.

Words. Words would have been useful here.

Okay, so Enrico is moving 4 . . . just barely. Maybe with this encumbrance measurement, I need to make armor heavier, or perhaps reduce what removes a movement point. Everyone's movement is too high.

I'll leave it for a couple months, see how it goes.

[I work tomorrow, so I'm going to take the evening off, work on the book, other things. I'll put in a little time Fri/Sat evenings, but I have Sunday off. I've had my hours cut, I'm working four hours a week through Jan and Feb]

Can Enrico waddle through the stunned Kismet's hex (0811), go into 0812, and turn around? My intention is he ends up facing Kismet with his back to the map edge.

Ibrahim Bin Yusuf said...

I'm pretty sure that you stunned Kismet into 0812 already, Enrico.

Enrico Guerriero said...

Ah right, I thought I dropped him in his hex but I pushed him back one.

Enrico Guerriero said...

Instead...

Enrico advances to 0711 and puts his back to the rock.

Kismet said...

From a friendly constructive stance, Kismet might note as he 'feigns being stunned?' If you go to 7011 technically Sofia can make it to you and to your flank in one turn with 2 AP to spare. From there you lose your shield bonus and she gets +1 to hit.

If you move down and to the right, you can be outside melee range and have your front and left faces towards myself and Sofia.

My turn is lost due to stun, so you'll get another turn before I go in which you can assess the situation and move again tactically.

That said (You would probably know this) I'm not sure if Sofia can even stun you should she hit, but points add up.

Enrico Guerriero said...

Good point, I was more concerned with having my back to something. Just getting farther away would have been a better idea. When we do this for real, using table talk for tactics is definitely an advantage. The collective mind is a powerful weapon!

I'm pretty sure Sofia is up but will await the go-ahead from Alexis at his next availability.

Question, do the bonuses for flank & rear attacks work with thrown and/ or missile weapons. I checked the Wiki and while it implied melee with the example and image, it never stated melee only. Can Sofia flank Enrico with a thrown dagger?

Kismet said...

You probably can still benefit by him losing the shield bonus

Alexis Smolensk said...

[Please forgive me for not taking part yesterday; I was not feeling well. Let's just say in future that Friday is my day off]

It will take some time for me to get up to speed today. I'm spent. However, yes, historically speaking, attacking in enfilade, on the flank, has always been a bonus for archers, so I'll have to argue that it applies to missile weapons also.

Not going to work on the next map just now. I need to sleep.

Alexis Smolensk said...

I like that Kismet is calling out corrections, given that this is a learning experience and people are training themselves.

That said, in an actual combat, it would be too late to give this advice, since Kismet wouldn't see what Enrico was meaning to do until he had done it. Moreover, if there was a discussion ahead of Enrico's move, this would count in game time and both Enrico and Kismet would be unable to take any action at all that round, due to their talking. Just for your information.

Enrico hasn't specifically said, but I have moved him to 0911, the better move as Kismet and Enrico have agreed.

I have updated the post above to show the position before Sofia's move.

[This is all I'm going to do tonight ~ but at least I got one move up]

Ibrahim Bin Yusuf said...

[Thanks Alexis! Definitely rest when you need to - you know better than most that it's a marathon, not a sprint, and none of us will go anywhere while you rest up. :) ]

Sofia Viktorova Koleva said...

Happy Monday Everybody, I hope you are all well.

Sofia moves 0706-0806-0906-1007

She throws her third and final dagger at Enrico.

Not sure if that's a flank or a rear attack, so will just present the unmodified rolls.

to hit: 14
dmg: 2

Alexis Smolensk said...

With his armor class, this will miss. Going to work, will update later today.

Enrico Guerriero said...

Ibrahim, time to prove you can do something other than fall down ;)

Kismet said...

Hey now, keep in mind that eventually most of us will be 'stun locked'. There's always a bigger fish. The trick is to not die and accumulate as much XP as you can.

Enrico Guerriero said...

Oh absolutely. Actually from watching the ill-fated battle on Juvenis, I see Enrico's role as more of a "damage sink" -- he has the AC and HP to take the brunt, (hopefully) freeing up others to do damage. Better for Enrico to get stunned than two of you.
