1st Dive ~ Looking over the Top Deck

As the small ship's boat the party has entered bobs on the surface of the water above the Petrel, Ibrahim and Enrico dive into the water.  Ibrahim has stated that he is checking out the hex at 0501.  Here is a reprint of the Petrel's top deck:

Where would the others like to examine?

Ibrahim,

Seeing that you can dive down to 0501 at once, and look as you go, you can travel two hexes from there this round with the AP you have. Remember that the water is very clear. You can see no damage whatsoever, but you do notice that the ports on the side of the boat are all wide open ~ they have not been dogged at all.

Hmm. Very interesting. Caught off guard? Deliberately scuttled? Too soon to say, I suppose.

I will begin swimming across the deck to check the other side, so ending in 0503 this round.

I think we should stay together -- Enrico will stick with Ibrahim.

As you swim over the ship's wheel, Ibrahim, you can't help noticing that the ship's stairs to your left (0703) are also left open, without any sign of having been battened down.

Enrico, where are you swimming?

Enrico Guerriero said...

I am swimming across the deck to 0503.

Alexis Smolensk said...

Then no new information.

And here I'd rather not just create another page, since we're already done with round 1.

Let's just keep going. It is round 2 under the water and you're both possessed of 5 AP to use.

[I'm off for an appointment; I'll be gone about four hours]

Yuliya Romanyuk said...

I'll dive over by 1506 so that we cover a good part of the craft.

Where's the captain's cabin?

OOC: Feel like I shouldn't say anything till they get back, but that alone gives me a few ideas on what happened...

Yuliya,

I'll rule that you'll dive in the 2nd round of this post.

The evidence from 1506 shows that the ship doesn't seem to be damaged in anyway on this side, either. Which direction do you swim once diving? You have four AP remaining.

Enrico,

The captain's cabin is down the stairs just to your left, the ones that are open.

On my second round, I will swim to 0506, then (if I see no signs of damage, and nothing prevents it) point up and head for the surface.

Yuliya Romanyuk said...

I'll swim to 1705 to try and get a good look at the prow of the ship.

Alexis Smolensk said...

No problem, Ibrahim, the surface is just five feet above you. You can see that the ship on the starboard side is in the same condition as the port side.

Yuliya, the prow of the ship looks to be in good condition ~ with the exception that it is missing the bowsprit. All the masts have been sheared off ~ I haven't said that, but I suspect people were right to go there automatically.

The ship is lacking in masts.

Enrico Guerriero said...

Enrico surfaces, takes a deep breath, and confers with his colleagues. He calls to Sofia and Carlito that the ship appears undamaged save all the masts are gone. He also notes that the hatches and stairs were open.

He suggests to his fellow divers that tiohey next make for Captain Salvador's quarters.

Remember that you dive to the ship more quickly if you jump from the boat, than if you swim down from the surface. Swimming down from the surface, you will spend 2 AP getting down to the ship's top deck again, rather than 1 for diving.

Ibrahim Bin Yusuf said...

Hmm. In that case, let's spend a round or two getting everyone back in the boat (including Yuliya) so we can dive directly down to the openings rather than wasting breath swimming to them.

Ibrahim will climb back into the boat.

Ibrahim Bin Yusuf said...

Sorry, that should have been "Ibrahim swims over and climbs back into the boat."

Sofia Viktorova Koleva said...

Sophia, tense until now, breathes a small sigh of relief as word makes it back to the surface. "Nobody was aboard. The ship was scuttled."

Enrico Guerriero said...

"We don't know that for sure, until we go inside," Enrico says. "But I pray that is the case."

With all the grace of a landed seal Enrico hauls his naked body into the little boat. As everyone can see the water is cold.

"To the captain's cabin," he says, teeth chattering. "I'll go inside. Ibrahim, remain on the stairs but keep me in sight. Yuliya, you remain outside the ship but keep Ibrahim in sight. Carlito and Sofia, watch Yuliya. That way each of us has someone keeping an eye on us."

With that he dives into the water once more.

He swims down to the stairs that lead down to the captain's cabin, I believe 0703.

Yuliya Romanyuk said...

Yuliya will surface after examining the prow and report that the bowsprit is missing and the prow is in good condition, before swimming back over to the boat.

Sofia Viktorova Koleva said...

"The masts were cut intentionally, the bowspirit and sails taken and no other damage done to the ship. I can't imagine anybody overpowering Captain Salvadore, her crew and our masters and leaving the ship in this state. Continue the search if you will, but be cautious. I see no point in risking much more than what you already have for the sake of certainty when certainty is already before us."

Ibrahim Bin Yusuf said...

Ibrahim nods at Sofia's words but gestures helplessly at the ripples where Enrico dived back in. "We will return momentarily," he says, then dives in to watch the other man's back.

(Diving to 0703 under the presumption that Enrico is proceeding down the stairs; if he is not I will dive to 0603 instead.)

Enrico Guerriero said...

Yes, I want to check out the cabin.

Also I'm wondering what happened to Hermos.

Alexis Smolensk said...

We'll create a new post for the 2nd dive.
