Appearance

Pardon me while I interrupt the narrative.

I would like if you could answer some questions about your character. Please keep your answers simple and to the point, if possible. Some of this is information I could take the time looking up, or I could just get you to tell me quickly and easily, saving me time.

  • What is your character's preferred hand-to-hand weapon (proficiencies only)?
  • What armor are you wearing most of the time?
  • Are you usually wearing a helmet or do you envision yourself as bareheaded most of the time?
  • If you prefer a helmet, what sort is it?
  • What is the general color of your clothing?
  • What is the top layer of clothing worn over your shoulders?
  • Are you usually wearing gauntlets or are you barehanded most of the time?
  • What is your hair color and description from the character generator?

Take your time and give it some thought. This is how you're going to look most of the time.

Oh, and Ibrahim. I've been giving my thoughts to bards' sage abilities the last few days. There are strange issues surrounding the necessary organization of those abilities ~ but I think I've settled on the first and foremost thing being what sort of "art" you may choose to follow.

This is going to be far more comprehensive than most DMs may imagine ~ mostly because of what I've been reading. This is going to mean a lot of different "arts" ~ I don't wish to include just the more obvious ones of musician, poet, writer, painter and sculptor, but also things like dance, architecture, jewelry & metal ornamentation, acting, staging, make-up and costuming, circus (unsure of what to call it), puppetry, carving, leathercraft, glasswork, ceramics, gastronomy and gawd only knows what else.

Effectively, from among this very long list of "fields", your character would pick a Senior field and three Junior fields, then studies within the Senior field to start. It sounds like a huge amount of work for me, but in fact it is still only four fields to start, like any other class ~ and to be honest, this particular class sounds like a lot of fun! Perhaps because it is my field and specialty.

So think about what your senior field might be and your three junior fields. Don't rush; give it a little time. I have assassin more or less sorted out and I am a blank just now for monk [must research it more], so I'll be sketching out the bard in a little more detail than this comment before you have to make a decision.

Might as well go with what I have now...

• A bow
• Linen hauberk and chausses
• No helmet
• Brown and white
• Barehanded
• Brown curly hair, caucasian skin, a "belly pot" (pot belly? oof)

Oh, I can definitely work with where you're going for the Bard fields of study. At first blush, I'm thinking Poetry, Musician, Cooking/Gastronomy... I'll put more thought into before deciding for sure.

Quick question regarding the main point of the post: is this limited to what we currently have available to us? For example, Ibrahim intends to wear a helmet regularly once he has access to one, but doesn't have one now.

What is your character's preferred hand-to-hand weapon (proficiencies only)?
Broadsword

What armor are you wearing most of the time?
Expecting a fight or not having to carry anything, Splinted.
When on a boat (with no likely landing) or otherwise, studded cowhide armor
(Has a shield)

Are you usually wearing a helmet or do you envision yourself as bareheaded most of the time?
Helmet

If you prefer a helmet, what sort is it?
Practical, conical, nose guard. NO DAMN HORNS

What is the general color of your clothing?
Browns I expect.

What is the top layer of clothing worn over your shoulders?
Rabbit coat for when needed, hauberk is owned, I did get adventurer's gear and have yet to decipher what that was forever ago. Otherwise likely armor.

Are you usually wearing gauntlets or are you barehanded most of the time?
Gloves when unarmored, leather gauntlets when in leather armor (if splinted includes gauntlets, those while in splinted)

What is your hair color and description from the character generator?
Appearance
Character has a strong, high forehead, and is also possessed of a fresh, pleasant body odor.

Eyes: cloud grey
Hair: tawny, thick and course and with a youthful vitality
Skin: tawny brown

has a cracking, irregular voice, and also has large feet.

Sorry if there are too many conditionals in there.

I would like it if you could keep it to what you own, Ibrahim. It can be updated later.

Hah hah, Kismet. There will be no horns on the helmet.

Ibrahim Bin Yusuf said...

In that case:

Preferred hand-to-hand weapon: Sling (default weapon carried in hand is a quarterstaff, but Ibrahim is not proficient.)

Armor: None, dressed in silk robes.

Helmet: None, wearing a turban.

Clothing: Primary colors are rich earth tones, russet and a dark dijon-mustard yellow being the standouts. Top layer is his silk robes.

Gauntlets: None at this time.

Hair: Sooty black, with luxuriant curls and with a healthy growth.

Alexis Smolensk said...

I don't understand about your weapon, Ibrahim. A sling can't be used hand to hand; and you begin with two proficiencies as a bard, according to the wiki.

So your other proficiency is?

Ibrahim Bin Yusuf said...

My other proficiency is scimitar, but I couldn't afford anything that used it. It will certainly be my preferred hand-to-hand weapon once I can afford one; sorry for the confusion.

Alexis Smolensk said...

Thank you. Much appreciated, Ibrahim.

Enrico Guerriero said...

Ibrahim, when we return from the wreck, Enrico can buy you a scimitar under the same deal he made with Yuliya (it's a gift in gratitude for your assistance in finding his master).

What is your character's preferred hand-to-hand weapon (proficiencies only)?

Horseman's flail +1

What armor are you wearing most of the time?

Plate mail except when impractical (e.g. at sea).

Are you usually wearing a helmet or do you envision yourself as bareheaded most of the time? If you prefer a helmet, what sort is it?

A helmet with a visor and a red plume, in the style of the Italian cavalrymen like his father.

What is the general color of your clothing?

Mostly red, the color of the Spanish Empire to which the Kingdom of Naples belongs.

What is the top layer of clothing worn over your shoulders?

A cloak.

Are you usually wearing gauntlets or are you barehanded most of the time?

Leather gauntlets.

What is your hair color and description from the character generator?

Enrico is a 15-year-old boy (as of 9/29/35) with Mediterranean skin and walnut brown eyes. His hair is russet brown, thick and coarse and with a healthy growth. He has a weak chin (I think most likely a double chin) and a 1-inch scar on his scalp (likely hidden by his thick head of hair).

Enrico is fat (5'10", 217 pounds) -- not morbidly obese but more than a little chubby. At 1st level he could not wield a weapon weighing more than 5 pounds due to poor physical conditioning. Now that he is 2nd level, he can wield weapons without restriction. In my mind he has turned some of that fat to muscle... he once was "doughy," now he's "beefy."

While everyone is underwater in this campaign, I have no use for top down figures for you; so I'm going to concentrate for the time being on making images for the other party. I hope this offends no one.

These take a little while for each one; I just want to concentrate on where they are most needed.

Sofia Viktorova Koleva said...

Of course, that is practical. No offense taken.
