The Hurt Returns - Minotaur Round 12

The minotaur shoulders the door with all of its 414 lbs., and Andrej suddenly realizes the error of his plan. The door, used as a weapon by the minotaur, slaps Andrej in the face for d8 damage ... I roll a 6.  That still doesn't stun Andrej, but it does force the cleric back into 0906.

Now the minotaur strides forward, lifts its axe with its second attack and proceeds to use it on Lukas:  it hits AC 1 with the axe, causing 12 damage to the mage.  The mage staggers back, shaken, for two hexes to 0504 ... but at -3, actually managed to remain conscious.  Bleeding, however ...

The minotaur runs out of movement then, turning its head to account for Andrej before glaring at all the little Berts.

The bull attacks Ahmet, sensing the fighter's previous mistreatment of animals.  I have the fighter's AC as 2 (plate & shield) and I hit that once, causing 4 damage.  That is just enough to stun.  Ahmet also suffers one damage from bleeding.  Ahmet falls back to 0905 and the bull follows him.

Rolling incidental damage from the bull, both Maximillian and Ahmet suffer none.  Lukas is technically in a hex adjacent to the bull's rump, but as the bull is pushing forward I will exempt the mage from a check.

Maximillian and Andrej can take action.

(OOC: OK, time for Plan B.

Do we have a Plan B...?)

I knew I should have pointed out my healing pouch to Bert. Oh well.

I am certain I have no actions this turn. Next turn perhaps I can use the healing myself or move away from the bull.

That's a miss, Maximillian.

Alexis, it seems that the minotaur spent a lot less in APs to use the door as a weapon then Andrej did to simply move it. Can you explain this to me? Also, not sure why Andrej was 2.5 feet behind the door when the stated action was to push it with his shoulder, was the door swinging freely? Don't mean for this to sound like sour grapes, just trying to undertsand what looks like an inconsistency to me.

Andrej moves to 0806 and swings at the bull:

to hit: 10
dmg: 4

There's a couple of things. First of all, the minotaur is 2.5x heavier and bigger than James, and 1.5 times as tall. The door, you'll remember, was described earlier as well balanced, but Andrej is still lower to the door's center of gravity than the minotaur. To the minotaur, the door is just a door. It used 2 AP to slam the door open (no extra move penalty for the fact that Andrej was on the other side of it), 2 AP to move forward, and 2 AP to hit Lukas. The minotaur has 6 AP altogether, +1 AP to compensate for its size vs. ground distance.

(OOC: Just checking in this morning, although Ahmet is stunned and still bleeding. (11 HP at the moment.) Here's hoping we have the Luck o' the Irish today.) ;)

Thanks for the clarification.

(OOC: Sorry I hadn't checked in earlier, I had hoped I was going to have time starting around now.

I'm going to have to call the day. I am sorry, all. I know this is frustrating)

Maximillian Boii said...

I'm sorry to hear that, but... what can we do? we have to work.

(OOC: I'm feeling like we're sputtering a bit. Is this as good as it gets now or is there some benefit to suspending play and reconvening when time isn't in such short supply? I'd rather play as we're playing now then not at all, but if we can set aside the game now for the sake of some future, more consistent amount of play I think I'd like to discuss that. Thoughts?)

(OOC: I'd like to not suspend play if possible; it always takes me a while to find my way again when we restart. Maybe it would be helpful to reduce the number of days per week we play, not attempting mondays (or tuesdays if necessary) until the book's out.)

(OOC: There are a number of reasons we're sputtering; building the images for combats is a little more time-consuming than merely creating posts; there are changes at work that are making life difficult, particularly on Mondays ... you may notice I have more time later in the week. Finally, I'm prepping an audience for a book I'm launching in July, and making additional moves to organize a pre-book, a graphic artist, a book artist for two covers, additional costs that must be raised, materials to be gathered and research to be done - this last in particular is going to eat some of my free at work time.

I'm prepared to keep running, but when I need space its just that there's a lot going. I don't know how soon this is going to change. I don't plan to suspend running, because we've done that and right now I don't think it would be better when I got back. We'll just have to muddle through until one of these commitments lays down)

I understand why we're sputtering and I don't begrudge it. You do the lion's share of the work for the game, Alexis, and I certainly appreciate it. It's getting tougher and tougher to make checking-in on the blog a habit when I don't know what to expect, though. Perhaps as Max suggests we can at least rule out ahead of time certain bad days/ times. Like, Mondays are always out but otherwise check in at x time each weekday to see if we're playing or not.

If I'm the only one having trouble getting into the game as it is, then I suppose we muddle on as you say. I'm certainly not ready to quit.

Deal. I'll check in a 11 AM EST, 8 AM PST, each day, and establish a schedule.

That would really help me, thanks.

The map shows that the minotaur is in 0607. Andrej says he moves to 0806 and swings; but he's not close enough to actually attack. A 10 misses at any rate.

Alexis Smolensk said...

All the Berts back onto the same hex as Lukas. At the same time, four bright torch lights appear between the bull and Ahmet/Andrej.

The next post is up.

Bull. Andrej was swinging at the bull, though I suspect that was still a miss.
