Holy smokes!

I'm not going to give general experience to the whole party, as I've done in the past. Everyone has to take specific items, and the distribution of those items will award experience. I much prefer that ... in part, because in invokes luck, and it allows the party to award extra experience (treasure) to mages and such who sometimes do not get battle experience and yet contribute greatly - particularly at the higher levels.

So every specific item needs a home.

Please enjoy dividing it all up. You can use your sage abilities to 'guess' at the value of some things, if those abilities apply.

Andrej said...

Holy smokes indeed. Make a pile. Andrej casts detect magic on the whole shebang.

Ahmet said...

I suggest we claim items in reverse order of X.P. awarded (Sofia first, Ahmet last). This was truly a group effort, so at least that will balance the scales somewhat.

Andrej said...

A good idea, Ahmet, I was struggling myself to come up with a plan for distribution. This is our biggest and most varied pile of loot to date.

Ahmet said...

After the gathering and piling, Enrico returns to the entrance to check on Tazio, the horse, and the rope.

Alexis Smolensk said...

There is a rule that states that a henchman cannot receive more than half the experience total gained by their liege from treasure; so that if you give to Enrico more than half of that you give to Ahmet, that extra is gained in worth only, and not in experience (by anybody).

Also, I'd like to point out that Sofia and Enrico received less experience because they only get half the bonus experience from the damage that everyone takes because they are henchmen. They will therefore usually be at the bottom end of any experience awarded ... particularly at 1st level.

Alexis Smolensk said...

The flail and the bottle exude magic.

Andrej said...

Before any items are claimed I'd like to hear Lukas's and Max's thoughts on fair dispersal.

Also we should probably group the coins into lots, maybe 500GP value lots. What of the gems?

Then there's the results of the detect magic to consider...

Keep the ideas coming and the chatter up, boys. This will set the basis probably for how this group of four divides goodies.

Lukas said...

Lets see if I keep a sack on hand, I think I do... I did neglect to keep a sack on hand. Sadness.

I have clean and shine which might help somewhat for some items. I can at least shine a few items to remove their rust.

Ahmet said...

Just an FYI, Enrico is proficient in flail. ;)

Ahmet said...

Hm... should we just do it as Max, Lukas, Andrej (then Andrej can split as he sees fit with Sofia), Ahmet (ditto with Enrico)?

Lukas said...

I will also cast polish on the heavy crossbow first.

I think we should lore up on the bottle and mace if we can. I don't think civitas has anything applicable, except maybe the raw quality of the make perhaps?

I guess I will start going through the non-magical goods and attempting to civitas each of them (I believe mercantilism is a specialization)

In the listed order.

It's times like this I regret not getting those scales...

Andrej said...

I'm good with that, Ahmet.

Further, how does the group feel about dividing the coins into equal, 500 gp value lots, dividing the gems as follows:
3 lots of 3 agates
1 lot of two corals

and making every other item a single selection. We could take turns right here in the comments selecting items in the order we agree upon.

Lukas said...

I think we should start with items, and pass half stacks of gold whenever a hench/hireling comes up, does that sound fair?

It's kind of in the middle of not giving to hirelings and giving them a full and underused cut.

Unless of coarse a hireling could actually use one of the weapons/armors. I'm much more interested in seeing items get used than just sold.

Andrej said...

As per Lukas's suggestion, Alexis, Andrej uses his sage's skill with artifacts to see if he can provide any useful info on the flail, potion and then the mundane items in order.

Andrej said...

Lukas, I think I prefer Ahmet's method. Yes, the players with henchmen end up with less per character, but it also means the players without henchman will ostensibly get more XP and eventually get their henchmen faster.

That said, if the flail is still there when I am picking I will pass on it.

Lukas said...
This comment has been removed by the author.
Lukas said...

I'm not going to lie. I am fascinated by the prospect of the bottle. That said I wont hold it against anyone if they go for it, there's plenty of bling for my outfit in there.

Alexis Smolensk said...

Just about fifteen minutes ago I suddenly realized, at last, how to rework the sage tables.

It shouldn't be IF you know something ... it should be how MUCH you know. That could be a simple die roll per level against a general scale. For example, if it was in your specialty, you'd roll 1d12 per level; if it was in your field, but not in your specialty, you'd roll 1d8 per level. Then, if it wasn't in your field at all, you'd roll a 1d4.

You'd need to get a 10 to know anything; a 20 to be considered familiarized; a 40 to be expert and an 80 to be a savant. Something like that. And once you rolled for a particular subject, that would be your TOTAL knowledge on it until you increased level.

So, say, gems. It's not mercantalism, but geology (I might add a new specialty). Where would that be for you, Lukas?

Andrej said...

With the second overall pick, Lukas, you have a good shot at it. But what do you think about the coin and gem allotments I proposed above?

Andrej said...

Nice Alexis.

Lukas said...

A: I like where that is going, but it sounds a little 3rd edition for you Alexis. ;)

B: Currently I only have Civitas...
Geology exists under Science BTW. But that said, I'm sure between myself and Andrej we may have some luck...

C: for the 1d4, does that apply to everyone or just those who have the potential to have that knowledge? If potential, are exceptions made for non-sages with something like a mining background?

Lukas said...

I believe the gem allotments sound good, but we should allow for knowledge checks first. To be honest, if we roll really well we should be sitting pretty for knowing enough to price everything out.

Andrej said...

I just rolled an 11 to know about the agates and a 14 to know about the coral on the basis of thier being out of my field (5d4).

For the flail, assuming it qualifies as an artifact, I rolled a 34 (5d12).

Bottle?

Alexis Smolensk said...

I can concede a d4 per level for those with mining backgrounds; and for Lukas, who has it out of fields. Everyone else is out of luck.

Roll, gentlemen, and I'll give you clues based on those rolls.

Ahmet said...

Enrico has Civitas; Ahmet has his mining background. Tazio (up top with the horse) is the son of a metallurgist and can identify the value of metal objects, if we want to bring him down here. But then he might want a share. ;)

Lukas said...

Ahmet, I can't believe you of all people would not know the answer to that request... Tell him his boat ride off the island is his share!

(OOC: I will take some time to roll this stuff out in a sec. Got some work-like stuff to do this morning. Stupid fires.)

Ahmet said...

Ahmet rolls 5D4: 14

Maximillian said...

(OOC: Sorry I'm late to the party... I overslept ;) I'm catching up now.

Alexis Smolensk said...

Lukas, don't roll for every object. Just roll once for your general knowledge.

(You might give something nice to Tazio ... else his morale will worsen or he will simply leave your service - not a henchman)

Lukas said...

Aw, but I just made an awesome spreadsheet for each individual item...

Civitas (3d8) 21 and Geology (3d4) 6

Maximillian said...

Maximillian has never _imagined_ so much treasure. I'm fine with either Lukas' or Ahmet's distribution plans.

I have earth and sky as my field (but I'm not specialized in geology) and a mining background, do I get d12?

Alexis Smolensk said...

The mercantilism is at best vaguely applicable ... but ... it will define the short sword, the owl figurine and the silver chain mantlet as fairly close in value and clearly the most valuable of the lot. The helmet, goblet and medallion are something around half the value of the first three.

Probably nothing here is worth more than a thousand gold.

Ahmet's experience with mining says there's no question the agate stones are all of much less value than the coral, perhaps a tenth as much. There's one nice agate piece that's worth three times as much as the others.

This is all the party knows.

Ahmet said...

Ahmet recounts what he knows of the agate stones and coral pieces in the midst of a sad story about the untimely demise of his Uncle Mahzun the stone polisher.

"But the good news was none of the blood spattered on the gems, so his last work was not in vain."

Andrej said...

How about Andrej's artifact roll re: the flail... any applicability?

Lukas said...

Not to be argumentative, I think your answer is fair, but what knowledge would you think is more applicable?

Andrej said...

Given the update regarding relative worth of the coral and the agates I propose that we make each piece of coral a seperate item and make all of the agates one item for purposes of selecting loot.

Any objections?

If not, we should be close to ready for Max to select his item followed by Lukas, Andrej & finally Ahmet. Rather than beginning agian with Max, should we allow Ahmet to select again and work our way back down the line like a snake draft?

Maximillian said...

Are we agreed on order? (Max, Lukas, Andrej, Ahmet) I propose after each round, we go in reverse order, so I would get first and eighth picks.

Maximillian said...

Heh, good idea Andrej ;)

Andrej said...

It looks like Max and I agree on the snake draft. Any opposition?

Lukas said...

I agree with the gems, though keep in mind the gold piles are now VERY valuable in comparison to the mundane items. With the information we have only 3 items have the potential to be worth more than each 500g pile.

Also the order sounds appropriate.

Maximillian said...

If we're all set, I will take the chain mantlet.

Lukas said...

I'm intrigued by the corked bottle, but with our current information and my desire to hit 5th level I will go with the Owl. It will probably make a great paperweight.

Andrej said...

Andrej selects the corked bottle.

Enjoy the flail, Enrico ; )

Maximillian said...

If we divide the coin into lots of 470, that gives us 7 piles, 411 gives us 8 piles.

Alexis, is the chain a collar? or is it a raw sheet of chain links an armorer could fashion into something useful?

Ahmet said...

Actually, why don't we divvy out the coins according to shares, maybe:

Ahmet, Andrej, Lukas, Max: One share

Sofia, Enrico: Half a share

Tazio, Hichem, Mareo, Carlito: Quarter share

So that divvies up six ways.

Each share would be 538 1/6 GP, 122 1/6 SP, 97 2/3 CP.

Ahmet said...

Yes, Ahmet selects the flail for Enrico... hopefully it's a horseman's flail, unless the proficiency covers either type...

Andrej said...

I'd like to stick with the coin lots, but we can choose another quantity as per Max's suggestion.

Maximillian said...

Ahmet, none of the hirelings were involved in the fight, so I'm doubtful they would get any exp for their 1/4 shares. (Alexis, correct me if I'm wrong, please) I think the pricipals should receive those shares, and distribute them as they see fit.

Andrej said...

Why don't we take your "shares" as the lots, Ahmet?

Ahmet said...

I suppose we could just leave them as lots, if someone would rather have more coins than items. Just throwing it out there.

Andrej said...

You have the next pick, Ahmet.

Ahmet said...

Oops, sorry.

Ahmet takes the short sword with the pommel of amber stones.

Maximillian said...

Alexis, (or any of you who know this) do you grant ac for a helmet, or does it just keep you from being brained? Is there a penalty for use?

Andrej said...

Andrej selects the gold medallion.

Lukas is up.

Max, I think the helmet helps somehow against critical strikes, I forget how though.

Ahmet said...

I'm assuming anything not already described as rotten/rusted is usable?

Did Lukas's "polish" spell do anything to help the heavy crossbow?

Lukas said...

I will take gold.

Maximillian said...

I take the engraved helmet
and, (second pick)
1 share of the coin, whether that's 1/6 or 1/8.

Alexis, can you describe the medallion?

Maximillian said...

Lukas, you're up again.

Ahmet said...

Sorry folks, I'm going to be AWOL for the next couple hours.

Alexis Smolensk said...

Trying to parse out what each person gets from the flurry of comments will get difficult.

Please put up a comment that reads, "CHARACTER'S TAKE (in caps):

Item(s)"

Alexis Smolensk said...

Roll 5d12 for the flail, Andrej.

Maximillian said...

I'm tracking it all, so I can put up a summary at the end.

Alexis Smolensk said...

Lukas,

Let's not get into the details at the moment; no one's going to be screwed, probably, by their take in this, so we can reserve that discussion until I can hammer things out more precisely. Good?

Lukas said...

Lukas:
Owl
Gold x2*

Alexis Smolensk said...

The mantle is something like this:

http://img0.etsystatic.com/000/1/5433308/il_fullxfull.212474916.jpg

Being a druid, Maximillian cannot wear metal armor.

Lukas, I would prefer you wrote your name in CAPS and that you put the exact amount of gold you took ... but, I will take Maximillian's tracking document.

Lukas said...

Right now I'm using the share of gold because as far as I know a share hasn't been settled on.

Advantage of high gold:
Less rounds of back and forth.

Advantage of low gold:
Probably closer to average take.

Maximillian said...

Oh, whoops. On the wiki it said any armor.

Maximillian said...

I would rather items go to who can use them. If I can't use the helmet I will switch it out, if noone objects. (I'll keep the mantlet anyway, we can determine if someone wants to trade me for it after the rest of the stuff is divvied up.)

Andrej said...

Let's go with Ahmet's definition of a share, dropping the fractions.

ANDREJ TAKES: 538 GP, 122 SP, 9 CP

Andrej said...

5d12 roll for the flail: 46

Andrej said...

ANDREJ HAS TAKEN SO FAR:

stopperd bottle emitting magic
gold medallion
538 GP, 122 SP, 9 CP

Alexis Smolensk said...

Let me go fix that armor thing.

Druids have always been limited to leather armor and wooden shield (no studded leather, no reinforced shields).

Maximillian said...

Being more specific in my previous request, I'd like to switch the engraved helmet for a share of gold if I can't use the helmet.

This leaves one share for Ahmet.

Alexis Smolensk said...

Ah, I see ... its because I built the druid file from the cleric file, and that's a hold over.

Alexis Smolensk said...

My deepest apologies.

Alexis Smolensk said...

Updated:

"Druids are unable to make use of metal armors of any type (even studding or reinforcing metal, and are therefore limited to leather, wood or turtle-shell for their armor. Turtle-shell armor is equivalent to scale mail."

Maximillian said...

No worries, I should have asked when I first noticed it, but it didn't come up before.

while we're on the topic, you also included the cleric text for weapons, but the table (incorrectly linked) shows, e.g., scimitar.

Alexis Smolensk said...

(OOC: you realize, according to the old rules that hydra would have had about 23 hit points)

Alexis Smolensk said...

I see that I've posted the missle weapons twice. I'll fix that, too.

Alexis Smolensk said...

There, the correct proficiency table is up on the wiki.

Details, details.

Lukas said...

LUKAS MEYER

Currently with no additions since third pick.

Coral Owl

1076 2/6 GP, 244 2/6 SP, 195 1/3 CP

Alexis Smolensk said...

For the record, druids can use scimitars, tridents, javelins, etc ... it's the compensation for the armor.

Lukas said...

I'll drop fractions when all is said and done.

Maximillian said...

Ahmet is gone for a while, and he gets the next two picks. I'll check back in in an hour or so.

The usable items I have as being available are:
1 share of gold
2 corals
9 agates
Engraved Helmet
Gold Goblet
Gold Ring
Plate Mail x2
Scale mail x3
Great Helmet x2
de-rusted crossbow?
Warhammer
Trident
Large Shield
Glaive
Handaxe
and a possibly derustable light crossbow.

Alexis Smolensk said...

Thank you Lukas.

None of this actually helps until the FINAL count, however. But I appreciate the exhuberance.

Treasure division is always the hardest part of this game. I am so pleased that the random table worked, however. Took me exactly 1 click to produce this treasure list (though I still had to make up the types of gems and the types of 'jewelry' ... but that will be fixed)

Maximillian said...

MAXIMILLIAN BOII:

Silver chain mantlet
2 shares coin (1/3rd of total)

Alexis Smolensk said...

Sorry ...

Could we please stop posting your total take until we actually have your total take? As I understand it, not all the treasure has been sorted yet.

When the treasure is sorted, I will want to distribute experience. That is the only reason I care what you've actually taken from the cave.

Andrej ... since you have the bottle - open it?

Andrej said...

When the bottle was emitting magic could Andrej tell if it was the bottle itself or its contents?

Alexis Smolensk said...

No, there is no real distinction; the intensity of the magic is quite strong, however.

Maximillian said...

Out of curiosity, did the equipment come up as treasure? Or did you roll separately for the people slain by the hydra and discard anything not durable? Either way, it worked well.

This was a very tense fight, the success is very sweet.

Lukas said...

Not counting the 9 gems separately I would estimate we have 21 pulls left. At this rate we're likely to pull off looting in... 2-3 days?

Perhaps it would be prudent to consider a more expedient method? For instance, ordering our desired items of the remaining from 1-21 and simply calculating out the settlement using the same choosing order?

Alexis Smolensk said...

the extra weapons, crossbows, armor, etc, are all treasure. Remember that the table generates the combat equipment as well as the gold, gems and jewelry ... so I presumed two parties who had previously fought the creature and took a general distribution of those weapons.

Ahmet said...

I'm back!

AHMET selects the final share of gold and the engraved helmet.

Maximillian said...

Yeah Lukas, that's a good idea.
In order, including the items I think other people will select:

Another share of gold
The goblet
The ring
The engraved helmet
One set of plate mail
One set of scale mail _if_ I didn't get the plate mail
A great helmet
The large shield
The hand-axe
A coral
Another coral
The agates
Another plate mail
Another scale mail
Another helmet
The warhammer
The trident
The glaive
The heavy crossbow
The light crossbow

James C. said...

ANDREJ TAKES: one of the corals

Lukas said...

Lukas takes a Goblet.

Based on list Max takes
Ring
Plate

Lukas takes
Coral

We'll see what we can complete today I guess.

Ahmet said...

Back to Andrej?

Should we set aside something for our Pirate Captain?

Lukas said...

She doesn't want a hydra head for the figurehead? I mean... we should have 5 of em. That's the advantage of a hydra.

Lukas said...

Besides, her cut is the cost of storing all our shit.

Lukas said...

My desired order to help shortcut things too...

9 agates
Plate Mail
Scale Mail (if did not get plate)
de-rusted crossbow?
Great Helmet
Large Shield
Warhammer
and a possibly derustable light crossbow.
Handaxe
Glaive
Trident

Maximillian said...

Thanks Lukas, Yes, back to Andrej

Maximillian said...

We could all chip in and buy her something nice (or give her the gold directly) Or we could give her the ring from my last selection. Either way is fine with me.

Maximillian said...

I am also planning to sell that silver chain thing since I can't use it. If people want to haggle once we get it appraised, that could possibly make a very nice piece for her, albeit one potentially quite valuable. For that matter, I selected it thinking I could use it, if one of you can use it and want to offer in trade once we're back in town, I'm open to that as well...

Ahmet said...

I'm assuming we're going to be bartering a lot of this stuff for hay, apples, and chickens, for pennies on the dollar.

Maximillian said...

I just had an idea... We don't know anything about the power structure on this island, and we're due to leave one day hence. Supposing we sent a message to Roberto and Federico, telling them that Boroge has paid his debts. They could at their discretion take credit for the kill or tell tales about us. As long as we leave one head on this body, they'd have proof of their deed.

It may never come to benefit us, but we're not likely to see much glory anyway, and you never know, having allies may be useful.

It's just a thought...

While waiting for the divvying to continue, I gather up what remains I can find (Not Boroge, obviously) and perform the Druidic burial rights on what I can find. I then take steps to get all this loot out of this accursed cave. I can feel a cold coming on (susceptible to colds), I hurt all over (-2 hp) and I'm really looking forward to a hot fire and a long night's sleep.

For my edification, I would like to know if the water seeps back into the ground where we entered, or if there was an outflow we missed on the previous inspection.

Lukas said...

I have 1 day to bask in the benefits of having slain a beast with 5 heads that has been eating all the islands children. I also am willing to put money on us being out of here before the prince has an official response to the death of a horrific monster.

I'd also like to gamble that the prince will be grateful for less reason to have terrible PR with the locals. If we're lucky maybe he'll pay to have us say he sent us ;)

Lukas said...

Oh and when you save their current and future children from being eaten, I think it helps encourage them to give you better beds.

Maximillian said...

I'm sure there's someone in Zante or thereabouts who has authority to act on the prince's behalf on many matters. If I understand you, you're in favor of taking credit for it ourselves.

James C. said...

Andrej chooses the heavy gold ring.

Maximillian said...

Andrej, I'd selected that already.

Andrej's list:

Glaive
Plate Mail
Scale mail
Great Helmet
crossbow
Warhammer
Trident
Large Shield
Handaxe
light crossbow

Ahmet said...

Alright, I think we can wrap this up.

AHMET takes: Plate Mail #2, Scale Mail #1

ANDREJ takes: Glaive

LUKAS takes: Scale Mail #2

MAXIMILLIAN takes: Scale Mail #3

MAXIMILLIAN takes: Great Helmet #1

LUKAS takes: Great Helmet #2

ANDREJ takes: Heavy Crossbow, which was presumably unrusted by the Polish spell?

AHMET takes: The unrotten Large Shield

AHMET takes: Hand axe (maybe the one Enrico threw?)

ANDREJ takes: Warhammer

LUKAS takes: Trident

What's left:

Rusted Light Crossbow
Rotten Large Shield #1
Rotten Large Shield #2
Rotten Large Shield #3

People kept saying they took a share of "the gold", but I think we were doing it as shares of all the coins, yes?

So that's everything?

Alexis Smolensk said...

I don't have any desire to go over all this with a fine tooth comb.

9 agates

MAXIMILLIAN BOII Final Take

Chain Mantle
Gold Ring
Plate Mail
Scale Mail
Great Helmet

1076 GP, 244 SP, 195 CP

We can figure out from this what Ahmet's take is, but since he has to split that up, I'll let him divide it as he sees fit.

Have a nice vacation next week Alexis.

Ahmet said...

Left overs
1 GP, 1 SP, and 4 CP
A rusted light crossbow
Three rotted Large Shields

I'm assuming the light crossbow is salvageable, since the heavy crossbow apparently was. Maximillian was up so he can take that if he wishes. Can the rotted shields be repaired, or are they worthless?

I suggest we give the left over coins and the light crossbow, if salvageable, to Hichem.

Ahmet said...

Now what to do about these hydra heads...

Ahmet said...

AHMET's portion:

One share of coins: 538 GP, 122 SP, 97 CP
The magic flail
Short sword with a pommel of amber stones
Engraved helmet
Plate Mail
Scale Mail
Large Shield
Hand Axe

Ahmet keeps only the short sword, engraved helmet, and half the coins -- 269 GP, 61 SP, 48 CP.

Ahmet gives Enrico the magic flail, plate mail, scale mail, hand axe, and the other half of the remaining coins -- 269 GP, 61 SP, 49 CP. Ahmet has an empty large sack on his horse, and also room for another 256 coins in his money belt, so carting out the coins shouldn't be a problem.

Enrico keeps the weapons, the plate mail (which he wears if possible), and half of the coins Ahmet gave him -- 135 GP, 31 SP, 25 CP. Enrico's backpack is just about empty (a bowl, a mug, and a spoon), so he can stuff it with coins.

Enrico gives Carlito the scale mail (which he wears if possible), and the other half of the coins -- 67 GP, 15 SP, 12 CP, again with 36 GP paying for January, February, and March, and the remainder a bonus. His backpack is also nearly empty.

Enrico gives Tazio the large shield, and half of the coins -- 67 GP, 15 SP, 12 CP. Of the 67 GP, 12 GP should be considered his salary for January, 12 GP his salary for February, 12 GP his salary for March, and the remainder a bonus. His backpack also has just the bowl, spoon, and mug.

Not loot, but Enrico also gives Tazio the ring mail he had been wearing.

Lukas said...

Ok I think that's all of us.

It's a long way to the next level, but this should put a dent in it.

I reckon Max is looking a lot closer to leveling though.

Oh I think I'm leveling today!
