Round 13: The Mage Gets His

Boroge shifts two hexes to the creature's right:

Before the hydra's attack

The hydra's heads center on the periphery of the party, as the hydra tries to break down anyone left who could harm it.  The left most head attacks Andrej, the other two that aren't stunned attack Sofia and Lukas.

Andrej is missed again - not because he's in plate, but because for some reason the monster on this side couldn't hit a three-year-old girl dressed in bright pink ribbons.  However ... only the other side.

The head attacks Sofia and rolls an 8 ... which hits AC 8, which Sofia has as a first level monk (nope!  misses her!  She's AC 7!).
I need Sofia to roll a d20 under her wisdom or drop the torch (when things really get fun).

The right-most head rolls a 14 on Lukas, hitting AC 2, and taking a bite out of Lukas' clothes and flesh for 13 additional damage.  Lukas is bleeding 1 hp a round beginning next round.

Here's the view:

Fixed.

The party's turn:

Maximillian, as you went unconscious, you let go of your club and the shillelagh was lost.  Your strength nor dexterity are remarkably low, so you have no subtractions on attacking ... and just a reminder that a club can be thrown.  It's laying in the water just to your right.

Enrico and Ahmet are both free to go, and Andrej too.

Sofia's AC is 7 as a result of a background feature I have noted as Composition: Natural armor class of 7. If that's in error and Sofia still needs to roll:

d20: 5

If not in error, I guess she'll make a move when you let me know.

Andrej, on the other hand, swings at the head in 2914:

to hit: 5 (again)
and misses

Hah hah! Nope. Hydra misses her. I'll get up a corrected picture, and no worries about the torch.

Phew!

Forget the notion of open handing this fucker, if the light goes out we're all screwed.

Sofia backs up as follows:
2812-2711 and draws her final throwing knife.

Can I throw my bola this round? If yes, can I also step back (2711) afterwards?

Andrej said...

Sorry Max, wanted to protect the light.

Maximillian said...

you can also get to 2712 without going through me...

Andrej said...

That's what I'll do (2712) if Alexis allows a take-back on the announced action.

Reposted picture is up.

You'd have to wait until next round to get the bola thrown, Maximillian. All you could do now would be to load it, and with your move you can't load AND move at the same time (takes 2 AP in this environment to move a hex, and the bola also takes 2 AP to load).

Also take note that the minimum range for a bola as shown on the druid table on the wiki is 3 hexes. You could throw it at the body but you wouldn't get a good spin at the head.

Andrej, you did say last round that Sofia was all out of daggers.

Lukas said...

I think it's the difference between daggers and throwing knives Alexis. Assuming there is one of coarse.

Maximillian said...

OK, thanks for the clarification on the bola.
Yeah, I forgot already that I only have 3 ap. This must be somewhere between whack-a-mole and putting a cat in a box.

Ok, if you'll allow me (and sophia) to redeclare, I'll snag my club and back up to 2711.

Enrico backs up one hex to 2713 and begins loading his bow.

Ahmet steps forward into 2913 attacks the head in 2914 -- I think that one is closest to death.

To hit: 14
Damage: 9

Also, give me the torch next round.

As Lukas said, Alexis, it's the difference between daggers and throwing knives. Sofia carries four of the former and three of the latter. She's all out of daggers but has one throwing knife left.

(OOC: you won't throw the club at the creature's damn body and save Ahmet and Andrej's hide?

*shakes head*)

That's the source of my confusion, Lukas. I thought it was also said that the 2 damage was the best Sofia had done with a throwing knife ... so ... my question stands.

Alexis Smolensk said...

That's a miss, Ahmet. You need a 16 to hit AC 0.

Alexis Smolensk said...

I think I get it now. Thank you Andrej.

My thinking is that average damage from the hydra is enough to kill, and without moving I'm in range for next round, so backing up gives us the best chance. And taking the torch frees up Sophia, who can at least take a hit. I'm guessing a hit for two damage is enough to stun either of the left two heads, but... a miss does nothing.

Question, does bleeding out interrupt casting?

Maximillian said...

That is a sad, sad question.

Alexis Smolensk said...

I think we're all caught up.

Give me about an hour.

Andrej said...

On the contrary, Max, that is the question of a bad motherfucker. I think I'm going to have a wallet made for Lukas along those lines...

Here's an answer, Lukas.

If, in future, someone you happen to sit at a gaming table with makes a comment about mages being a bunch of weak-ass namby-pamby cowards, you look them in the eye and say, "Fuck you, man ... my wizard casts spells while he's BLEEDING, man!"

Lukas said...

I have many thoughts on this, but I'll go with this one. Assuming I survive I just got a good chunk of XP and saved someone else a bite tot he face.
