Tower Crown Round 3: Meet Four Tough Guys

None of the opponents change hexes, but all four attack.  Mr. Red attacks Ahmet with his flail; Mr. Yellow does the same, attacking Andrej.  Mr. Pink produces a dagger and hurls that at Andrej.  Mr. Green fires his crossbow at Janos.

The only successful hit is Mr. Yellow.  He hits AC 1, good enough to hit Andrej, and he causes 9 damage with his flail (strength bonus included).  This stuns up to 36 hit points - Andrej's character shows he has 30 hit points, so he is stunned.

He will stagger back towards Janos, but as he can't be pushed into 0606 (as Ahmet was), he must remain in hex 0705.  Normally, it would be possible for Janos to let him retreat to 0706 whil Janos moved forward and attacked, but since 0706 is a ladder, that's not possible.  (also, Andrej can't move forward to hex 0805).  Janos can move forward to share the hex with Andrej, but since that would be two persons to the hex, Janos wouldn't be able to attack.

But I am open to suggestions.

Ahmet, you are free to attack.

Lukas, depending on what Janos does, you may or may not appear where Janos is at the beginning of next round.

That's right Janos, take all the dagger throws so he can't interrupt my spells...

Ahmet attacks the fellow in 0605. (I'm assuming only one attack per round against these guys?)

To hit: 15
Damage: 8

Spells, mmmmm.

Couldn't Janos move through Andrej's hex and into 0805? Or through Ahmet's and into 0505?

Ahmet has one MP remaining; perhaps if that attack stunned Mr. Red, I can use the remaining MP to move to 0505 or 0605 (if he is pushed backward into Mr. Green or stumbles into 0505), opening up 0606 for Janos?

I can't move and then attack (as I understand it, it would require 4 MP -- one MP to break combat, one MP to move to 0505, and then two MP to attack), but I don't think I need to spend an MP to break combat from a stunned opponent.

That's assuming a) that 8 HP stunned Mr. Red and b) Alexis allows me to use that remaining MP.

and c) that a 15 hit him ;)

Good idea Andrej.

It will cost Janos 1 move to get into Andrej's hex, and two moves to get into 0805 ... if he wants to.

Ahmet,

That hits and stuns; Mr. Red falls back and into the hex with Mr. Green. Ahmet still has one move left.

And yes, doesn't require a move to break combat from a stunned opponent.

Janos can't move directly into 0606; he has to move through 0705 first (shape of the landscape)

Assuming Janos has 4 MP, can he move through Andrej's hex (1 MP), into 0605 (1 MP), and attack Mr. Red or Mr. Green (2 MP) -- I believe with a to-hit bonus because they're now occupying the same hex?

James C. said...

He can move into either of 0605 or 0805 now that Mr. Red is stunned, I believe.

Sorry, fellas, I've been a bit held up.

Janos moves through Andrej into 0805 and then attacks Mr. Yellow.

d20: 13
d10: 9

Ahmet uses his remaining MP to step forward in pursuit of Mr. Red.

Janos, if it takes 3 move for you to get to 0805, and it takes 2 move for you to attack, that's 5 moves; and since you're in some sort of armor, you can't have a movement of 5 - n'est pas?

No trouble with you getting to 0805.

János said...

Ah, okay, I suppose Janos just moves into 0805, then.

(OOC: Cheer up. Would have missed anyway.

Hey guys. I had said I was going to take a break for June - but here it is the first, and I'm still playing. I'm going to keep at it next week, too - but the week after I've got a vacation coming and I'm going to spend it writing and cheerfully ignoring the whole wide world. In the meantime, we'll keep at this combat as well as we can)

(Whoops, I was wrong about the MP cost, Janos. Sorry. This round you may hev been better in 0505, but next round you're probably best positioned where you are now at in 0805.

Alexis said...

Yes, well, Mr. Red is stunned, but Mr. Yellow is fit as a fiddle.

Andrej said...

Are we just waiting on an action from Lukas now?

Andrej is stunned, yes?

I think Lukas's only option is to climb the ladder (or not).

Lukas, you could ask Klaas to climb up and take a shot with the crossbow, if he's willing.

Andrej said...

You're right Ahmet, Lukas was going to fill Janos's spot.

I say get the wizard up here stat and just consider Klaas a bonus if he makes it up. These guys on the roof are pretty tough but the guys in the "door" might be dispatched by a sleep spell when it comes time to deal with them... not to mention Lukas has been pretty awesome at chucking darts.

(OOC: Morning fellas, this is just a note to let you know I'm not going to have any time today. I will get up the next round when I'm able).

Lukas said...

I figure I'll try and go up next and get a spell off. Unfortunately it wont go off till next round, but I'm thinking either a charm or a sleep is my best option. If these guys have more than 2 hd though, the charm will fail. I don't want to Push as you will be in the way and probably get pushed. But, if there is an opening, it would probably fling some guys off the tower...

(OOC: and I am STILL screwed. New trainee, time before my vacation, last ridiculous deadline ... I can't find five minutes. Hope you guys forgive me)

(OOC: All is forgiven. I do hope things will be able to pick up at some point in the near future, though. Provided we all still have the time to play what we seem to be currently lacking is a playing rhythm. That is, when we are available it never seems to be on the same day and at the same time.)

(OOC: When it takes four hours for me to have time to come back and see if someone left a comment to my comment, momentum is a lost cause.

We're more or less going to be subject, at times, to a game that is played more or less "by mail" ... which you must admit is even slower than this.)

(OOC: I'd rather play a great game slow than a bad game fast. And so far this has been great, so take your time! No one wants a burned-out and/or unemployed DM.)

Alexis said...

Hello. I have finally been able to get up the next post, and thus the next combat round.

Point in fact, if I were suddenly unemployed, I'd have more time to do this!

Might just get one round done today ... but I'm happy about it.
