Otyugh Round 3: Misses Everywhere

Ermeth watches the door; Palt moves to give a bit more light.  Aruth advances next to Ahmet and swings - missing.

Frith continues to call to his men; Kushi holds his position behind Ahmet, keeping out of Joost's way.  Ganzor and Nerga advance beside Andrej.  Salth tries to shine a bit more light by moving to his left

Seth starts down the rope.  Odval, Erdina, Batath, Worter, Htuya and Wedth all fire with slings (Wedth is -2 to hit due to darkness).  The first volley is a disaster:  ALL the dwarves miss the creature, and Htuya's stone hits Joost, causing 1 damage.  Thankfully, Joost is at full hit points, and manages to remain combat ready.

The creature attacks - it does not strike with its mouth or its left tentacle; the right passes over Aruth's head and strikes Mega, causing 7 damage.  This stuns her (the red symbol defines her as such for the next round), and she staggers back.  Ahmet and Aruth are both untouched, as the massive bulk of the creature shuffles away from them towards Andrej - there is no incidental damage.

This round:

If Ahmet wishes to attack, he will have to risk the depth of the pond; he has no forward momentum, now, so it will take him four moves to slop his way around the edge of the pond, through 1317 and 1418.  Ahmet can always throw something if he can get it out fast enough.  (The tentacle, which appears to be right in front of you, is a representation and is not within reach to be hit).

Joost can't move and attack for the same reason; he has no forward momentum, and it will cost him 2 mp to get into hex 1317 (unless his movement is 4, in which case, he can move to 1317 and attack if Ahmet wishes).

Andrej, you have forward momentum, and you can move to either 1418 or 1518 and attack.  Ganzor is rushing towards 1418 - he has momentum also.

Lukas, you can see the creature.  Khath can fire his weapon.

Glaive attacks:

Hm... plate mail and deep water aren't a good mix.

Ahmet will use 2 MP to slog 1317.

He will use his remaining MP to call to Frith, "Have some men stay by that other entrance! I don't want us to be hit from behind!"

And Joost?

Andrej said...

Andrej moves up to hex 1518 and attacks.

15 to hit & 7 dmg

Andrej said...

Alexis, a reminder that Andrej is 4th level, not 3rd as stated on the other blog, for purposes of using the appropriate combat table.

Ahmet said...

Joost also has 3 MP (chain mail, 12 STR).

Can Joost go anywhere? I'm in 1317 and Ganzor is in 1318.

Andrej said...

Ganzor is probably moving to 1418, though.

Lukas attacks with one dart though the gap in the dwarves, he then steps back one hex (1223) to make room for Klaas.

Klaas steps into the vacated hex and fires at the beast, if possible he steps back to his current hex and reloads again.

If the Neo-Otyugh stays where it is...

and if Ganzor moves to 1418...

and if Joost moves to 1318...

Can Joost use his glaive to attack over Ganzor and reach the Neo-Otyugh from one hex away?

I've put up a graphic, Ahmet. Note that Joost can attack between friends, but not through them.

Andrej's level is fixed; and your level means that you hit, whereas otherwise you would have missed. The 7 damage is noted; it does not stun the creature.

Ganzor is moving to 1418; Joose is free to move to 1318 if you want.

Lukas,

Roll a d20 for yourself (and 1d3 damage, in case you hit), then roll a d20 for Klaas, plus damage.

If it is a light crossbow, it does 2d4+2

A heavy crossbow does 2d6+2.

Ahmet said...

Joost moves to 1318.

Lukas said...

Lukas d20: 10 (9+1)
D3: 1

I assume heavy crossbow since Ahmet has a heavy one.
Klaas d20: 19
2d6+2: 9 (1, 6, +2)

OOC: Furthermore, I cannot find Joost's character sheet. I'll gladly take him over after this fight as soon as I can find it.

Ahmet said...

Yes, it is a heavy crossbow.

I'll send you the Joost info.

Ahmet said...

Actually, I'll just post it here.

Joost, man-at-arms.
proficient in glaive & club.
10 hit points.
21 years old, 5'9", 159 lbs.
Ex-farmer.
12 str, 10 int, 11 wis, 15 con, 12 dex, 8 chr.
Walnut brown eyes, iron grey hair (moderately straight and with thorough greying), caucasian.

He is wearing chainmail and is armed with a glaive and club.

That's everyone. I'll get the next round up.

Klaas scored a marvelous hit. Logically, he should start loading again - this will take him three complete rounds of loading, and so he won't fire again until round 7.

The beast is not stunned. I shall move the dwarves and get the next post up in about half an hour.

Alexis said...

Klaas doesn't have the move to go back this round; but he can do as you wish, Lukas, next round.

Lukas said...

I want to be able to throw darts, and I assume I cannot do so from Klaas's original position or my current one.

Ahmet said...

Not stunned yet? Gulp.

Lukas said...

I honestly didn't expect anyone would stun a giant beast with a prefix from a normal version in Alexis's Mass Based HP system...

Especially with the rolls those dwarves have been getting, poor Joost!

Andrej said...

Anything over a ton takes a whole lot of hurting to stun, let alone finish off. These dwarves need to step up into the fray soon.

Lukas said...

Actually yeah, we have 20 dwarves, this means if all 20 if use slings at the same time the laws of probability say there will be friendly fire every round...

Alexis said...

Regarding darts, that is correct Lukas. And yes, friendly fire - terrible thing.

Lukas said...

Not as friendly as advertised.
